IAH NSW is pleased to announce that Dr Stuart Brown will be presenting a short course on Python for groundwater science on Wednesday 5 December. Dr Stuart Brown is a consultant hydrogeologist with HGEO Pty Ltd in Sydney. He has over 25 years’ experience in consulting and research for mining, infrastructure and agriculture projects. Over recent years, python has emerged as a popular and powerful set of tools for hydrological data analysis and visualisation with potential to streamline workflows. In this short course Stuart introduces Python for data analysis and applications to common groundwater tasks.
Costs are $60 for IAH members and $50 for students. Morning tea and lunch will be provided. To register please follow this link:

Course details
Take your hydrogeological data management and analysis to the next level with an introduction to Python. Python has become a popular language for scientific computing. It has all the friendly features and conveniences you would expect of a modern programming language. It boasts a rich set of libraries used and developed by hydrogeologists for working with data. The Python programming language offers adaptability and versatility to the types of analyses, modelling, and workflows that hydrogeologists use.
In this course you will learn:
•Introduction: Python for data science (and groundwater science)
•Python language basics and the standard library
•Key python science tools (e.g. Pandas, Scipy)
•Data manipulation and analysis examples using Pandas (examples: climate data and hydrographs)
•Data visualisation using Matplotlib and Seaborn
•Advanced topics: Groundwater modelling and processing
In all modules, attendees will work through real examples on their own laptops. So they will need to have Anaconda and Jupyter installed (instructions on how to do this will be emailed through prior to the course).
