Welcome! 2019 was a busy year for IAH Australia, culminating in the AGC2019 conference in Brisbane. The conference welcomed over 500 attendees and had a program that included international speakers, informative presentations and great networking events and field trips. I’m indebted to the AGC2019 organising committee for the incredible work they did to make the event such a success, thank you. It’s also my pleasure to announce the successful host city nomination for AGC2021: Perth.
Groundwater issues will continue to increase in prominence in 2020 and beyond, and it’s important that we as a hydrogeology community stay engaged. Groundwater plays a role in many of Australia’s big challenges, including climate change, finite water resources, resource management and our future energy challenges. We thank you for supporting IAH and we thank our sponsors for helping make IAH events and initiatives possible.
We have a great program for 2020, including the IAH/NCGRT Distinguished Lecturer Series presented by Wendy Timms and numerous state-based events. Keep an eye on the news webpage (iah.org.au/news) for more event announcements.

2020 IAH Membership
As a valued member of the hydrogeology community we invite you to now renew your membership. Membership renewals for CY2020 are due by 31 March; however, IAH is providing an incentive to do so by 1 February: you’ll go into the draw to win one of two copies of Ian Acworth’s new hydrogeology textbook ‘Investigating Groundwater’ (crcpress.com/Investigating-Groundwater/Acworth/p/book/9781138542495, valued at $313).
You’ll find our membership page (iah.org.au/become-a-member) simpler to use thanks to our website upgrade. We’ve also simplified our membership structure and we’ve kept membership fees at 2019 levels.
Stay Connected
IAH Australia Secretary, Claire Kent, has worked hard during 2019 to develop an updated web platform for communicating with our members.
Have a look at new website (iah.org.au) and provide your feedback regarding the user experience. Watch out for further improvements in 2020, including increased integration between our website and social media platforms.
