New palaeochannel mapping using AEM in South Australia’s remote north
The SA Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) has published a new palaeochannel map for Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands. (https://energymining.sa.gov.au/minerals/knowledge_centre/mesa_journal/news/bridging_the_gap).
The map is published in Pitjantjatjara and English. It’s a partnership between the Department for Environment and Water, CSIRO, Flinders University, DEM and the Geological Survey.
In non-hydrogeology news, DEM is also working on a project to upgrade the existing 5 megawatt (MW) diesel plant at Umuwa and install a 3 MW solar farm and 1 MW battery, which will deliver 4.4 gigawatts hours of renewable electricity to the local community.
